Snowy day Joyeux Noel card with Erica

Hello, hello!

It’s Erica back on the Trinity Stamps blog today, how are we doing? I’m here with another Christmas card, also made with the darling Joyeux Noel set. That deer is just too sweet, I adore him! Or her.. Yeah, let’s make it a ‘her’ today. I was on a roll a while back and coloured her then, you can check out my last blog post HERE.

This card is simple to make but has quite a few elements to it. There is texture, layers and colours. Perhaps not the most traditional Christmas colours, unless you count the scarf on the deer. However, with a sentiment that says ‘Merry Christmas’ it can’t be mistaken for anything else.

To start out with, I stamped my Joyeux Noel deer on Copic friendly card stock and coloured her in using lots of Copics. I also added a little pop of gold by colouring in the stars with a gold gel pen. Once all done, I cut her out using the coordinating diecut. I also cut out a shape out of foam sheet, to which I adhered my deer.

The background was easy to make! Although I would recommend doing the ink blending first and then do the puffy snow. I did it the other way around and I think it would look even nicer if the sky came all the way down to the snow. Learn from my mistake!

To create the snowy hill the deer is standing on top of, I used Puff Powder from WOW! Embossing Powder. I dabbed my VersaMark ink pad all along the bottom and then quickly poured the embossing powder on top. Before turning my heat gun on the powder, I made sure it was hot, hot, hot. The Puff Powder isn’t like normal embossing powder. If you under or over cook it, it just doesn’t puff up.

For the ink blending, I used Blueprint Sketch and Dusty Concord Distress Oxide inks to achieve the mixed colour. The Trinity Blendability brushes are oh, so lovely to work with!

Instead of splattering water on the ink blending, which I usually do like every time *one-trick-pony* I used a falling snow stencil and texture paste. I’m slightly obsessed with stencils and texture paste, I love the look and feel they add.

If you aren’t a fan of texture paste and stencils, why not try some of the fabulous sequins and embellishments Trinity Stamps offer? There are so many fun mixes, you will be spoilt for choice.

While I was waiting for the texture paste to dry, I cut out the word ‘Merry’ using a Lawn Fawn diecut. Once in gold mirror card stock and once in my beloved foam sheet. I also cut out a banner in white card stock and heat embossed ‘Christmas’ on it with gold embossing powder.

When I was sure everything was dry, I adhered my deer and the sentiment pieces to it. The whole thing was then adhered to a card base and with that, it was done.

I think this sort of design would be quite easy to mass produce as it would give each element time to dry in between each step. You could start with the backgrounds if you wanted to be really sure. While those are drying, you stamp and colour the deer and prep sentiments.

Right, well, in case you need to get cracking on your Christmas/holiday cards, I’ll let you get going.

Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica
