Magical Scene in a Traveler’s Notebook

Today I’m going to talk about doing a little bit of mixed media (just dabbling really), but in a traveler’s sized notebook insert that fits in a Standard Midori. Often mixed media is done on a canvas or in a mixed media journal/notebook. Anyway, I’m not a mixed media artist by any stretch of the imagination, but just someone dabbling in creating things other than cards occasionally.
I used a watercolor notebook from Traveler’s Company (a Japanese company that created the Midori traveler’s notebook), but there is no need for you to use this. You don’t have to use a notebook at all, just a sheet of watercolor paper or heavy cardstock!

First I tested several distress oxide inks to get a sense of which colors I wanted to use. Below is a sample I made; I modified it when I actually prepared the notebook spread.

I stamped several images from the Magical Wizards set on the page and made several masks. I also made masks from the clouds in the Castle Building Die set. Using a blender brush, I blended chipped sapphire and faded jeans distress oxide inks as shown, and then sprinkled gold watercolor. Stars drawn with a white gel pen helped fill the scene.
