How about a paper birthday cake?
Hi Everyone, Mirella here today!
As you know, Trinity Stamps have recently celebrated their 2nd birthday, and since it was also my birthday last week, I got inspired to make a birthday cake card for today’s project.
It just so happens that the most recent release included the awesome Slimline Celebration Borders – these make baking a paper cake a breeze! They are versatile enough that you can use them for other projects, too, but I wanted to start with using them in the way they were most intended to.
As a mum of two girls, I tend to be surrounded by a lot of purples and pinks, and so I opted for a yummy pink cake, too! I first created a standard “sponge cake” base (the Blending Buddies made the “baking” process so easy, I wish it could be this quick in the kitchen, too!), and then added a few pink “buttercream” & “glaze” decorations, using the dies. Originally, I planned to add a few more patterns to the cake, but I found it a little bit too busy, so in the end I only have three pink elements.
The die set comes with a cool set of candles (and have you noticed that the flames are different shapes? This is such a great & realistic detail!), but I wanted to do something a little bit different, and so I turned the “happy birthday” sentiment into candles instead. These had to be in rainbow colours, of course! And, to add a bit of gloss and puffiness to them, I coated them with Glossy Accents.
For the final touches, I sprinkled some Sprite rhinestones all over the cake, and added some detail with my white gel pen. I also rounded the top corners of the cake, as I thought it made it look a bit more realistic that way. Finally, I adhered the whole cake to a card base. I will admit – adhering the letters with foam tape was a bit of a fiddly process, but I think it was totally worth it!
Now, would you like a slice? Help yourselves, it’s calories-free! I hope it tastes as good as it looks 😉 Let me know in the comments if you enjoyed it!
As always, you can find all the supplies I used on my blog.
Big hugs,
Mirella
P.S. I baked another, slimmer and taller, paper cake on my blog last week, in case you would like some more inspiration.
Very cute card, the candles are perfect!
Thanks so much, Katie!
