Under the Sea
Hi everyone! It’s Jeannie (InsideoutJeans) on the blog today to share a card I created using a bunch of Trinity Stamps’ stamp sets and colored ONLY using distress inks.
I was inspired by seeing all these under water scenes through a porthole but I really just don’t have that many shades of alcohol markers in blue (and honestly I didn’t want to use all that ink). I decided I would probably be able to create the same effect using distress inks.
I stamped a bunch of images from a few stamp sets: Ocean Reef Builder, Oracle Octopus, and Turtley Awesome. For every image I stamped out, I also created a mask to go along with it. The technique of coloring is to create a background that is darker than the under sea critters. Using a bunch of different blue shades of distress inks, I focused darker colors around the image and the lighter blues in the remaining space.
Once I was happy with how it looked, I removed the masks and used the lighter shades of blue to colors up the under sea critters with distress inks. I only used two shades for them: one as a base and a second color only at the bottom of the image.
This was so much easier than I expected. Sure, it did take a bit of time to cut out masks for these images, but it was totally worth it! It looks like we’re just peering into an aquarium and I think that’s pretty cool.
I hope you get inspired to create! Thanks for stopping by! Come back soon!
