A Hug With A Fold In the Middle
Hi there, Trinity friends! It’s Bobbi Lemanski (@BobbiHartDesign) here with many BIG bear hugs! I love to try new card layouts and today I’m using a 7″ wide X 4-1/4″ tall card size. It opens to reveal a whopping 14″ of vivid color and a big hug in the middle! With a few easy folds and layers, this card does everything it says it does – literally! I’m using the following Trinity Stamps products to make this card:
Beary Special Slimline stamp set
How to Make this Card
To make this card, I started by cutting the following panels out of 80lb Neenah Solar White cardstock. I use 80lb v. 110lb because each panel is layered in this design.
- Cut 3: Exterior panels 7″ wide X 4-1/4″ tall
- Cut 2: Interior panels 5″ wide X 4-1/4″ tall
- Cut 2: Center panels 4″ wide X 4-1/4″ tall
Everything is cut to 4-1/4″ tall to match the size of the stamp image inside.
On one of the the exterior panels, I stamped the cute bears from the Beary Special Slimline stamp set. I did some light coloring in aqua, cool gray and lavender using Copics: C3, C1, BG000, B00, BG01, V05, V04, V12. The slimline bear image was fussy cut out at the top. I blended Distressed Oxide Ink using Wilted Violet and Spun Sugar on another exterior panel. I made it splotchy by splattering water on it and lifting up color using a paper towel before the ink dried. I splattered on some white acrylic paint, too. I love the look this offers. The bear image was attached to the blended background. I added faux black stitches around the perimeter of the panel. I set the panel aside for assembly.
I also stamped, heat embossed and trimmed the phrase, “Sending Bear Hugs” (from the same bear stamp set) on black cardstock and added a sign post.
For the two interior panels, I ink blended, Wilted Violet, Speckled Egg and Spun Sugar in that order. I flicked water on the ink with a small paint brush and lifted color using a paper towel to create the splotches. I set the panels aside for assembly.
I stamped the Folded Hug stamp image on one of the center panels and colored it using the same colors I listed above. After coloring the image, I scored both center panels (the one stamped and the one not stamped) down the middle and 1/2″ in from the vertical sides. These scored edges are the “insert tabs.” Both the interior and exterior center panels are sandwiched between the exterior and interior side panels. Tip: Insert the tabs and layer in a flat position for proper positioning. Notice: The center panels fold opposite each other when the card is in its closed position. All elements were adhered together using 1/4″ wide double sided tape.
I love that this card really DOES have a HUG WITH A FOLD IN THE MIDDLE as it states! It’s a fun way to make the statement while offering beautiful blends of color and lots of sweet bears on the front. This card fits inside an A7 envelope made for the 5″ X 7″ card size. No additional postage should be needed, but check with your local post office to be sure your weight is fine!
