Midweek Creations With Jo Ann: Floral Cross Book Mark

Trinity Stamps has a new release coming! I thought that I would share some inspiration with you today using the Floral Cross Stamp Set. This set, and the coordinating Floral Cross Die Set, will be available in the shop this Friday, May 3rd. Let’s get started!

I wanted to use watercolors so I stamped the image onto Tim Holtz Watercolor cardstock using Ranger Black Archival Ink. I have had the Hero Arts Liquid Watercolors for awhile and thought that I would try them out today. I only had to use a drop of color on my Tonic Studio Media Mat palette for each color. I thinned each color out with a drop of water. I added white to the teal color for a lighter shade of blue. The white is not as transparent as the other colors so there is a touch of opacity to it. It is perfect for making pastel colors.

I used #0 & #2 DaVinci Cosmotop Spin watercolor brushes to paint the flowers and leaves. I added the Cocoa color to the background with a larger #4 brush.

At this point I realized that I really wanted to make a bookmark and didn’t need to fill in the entire background. I used a Tim Holtz centering ruler and a T-ruler to mark it off because I never seem to cut a straight line when left to my own devices. LOL

A 1/8” inexpensive hole punch is the perfect size for a hole.

I found a bolt of tassels at a fabric store. It was on sale and 1/4 yd only cost .99 cents so now I can make five more bookmarks. I already had the pink and green floss in my stash.

I went back over the image with a Copic Black 0.3 Multiliner to reinforce the lines. I especially needed to go over the blue flowers because of the opacity of the white watercolor ink. I added a thin black line along the outside edges of the cross.

For the back of the bookmark I added the “Blessings” sentiment that is included in the set. It is stamped with Versamark Ink and heat embossed with Hero Arts White embossing powder on black cardstock. It was glued on with a glue pen. I used Hero Arts this time, but I frequently use Lawn Fawn or Gina K Designs glue pens. They all seem to work equally well.

This floral cross is so quick and easy to color. There is a coordinating Floral Cross Die Set that will cut out around the flower outline, but I don’t have it yet. I intend to run this through a laminating machine for added durability but I knew that it would make it difficult to photograph. This would make a thoughtful gift to include with a card, especially if you add a special bible verse on the back!
