Mixed Media Succulent Banner

Hello and welcome friends!  I am not so patiently awaiting the arrival of fall here, so I am crafting my own fall instead!  I love all the deep and vibrant colors that fall brings. Rusty orange, forest greens, burgundy’s and plum….they are all so pretty!

I was inspired to take the fall palette and use it on a stamp set I wouldn’t normally consider it for, Succulent Banner (stamp | die).  I have used this beautiful stamp set before for more of a spring palette of colors…and loved it then.  So that is how this card came to be…

I started by stamping the image onto watercolor paper using Versa Clair Nocturne ink.  I chose to use my Tombow markers to watercolor with, sticking to darker earth tones.  My highlights were added with an unusual (to me) twist.  Instead of just lightening the color I was primarily working with, I took a neon green and blended a tiny amount where the highlight would fall, I love how it turned out.

For my background I pulled out a hexagon stencil from my stash and ink blended some Distress Oxides in purples and greens on a brown cardstock base.  Before removing the stencil, I grabbed some green Nuvo expanding mousse and smattered it randomly across the stencil, not filling everything in.  The expanding mousse is fun to work with, it drys metallic, but you can heat it with a heat tool and get a whole different look too that looks more vintage!

My sentiment is from the Hello Senti Mini set. I stamped it in VersaMark ink and then heat embossed it in a platinum color.

I added a few of the sequins from the Autumn Leaves embellishment mix (Still channeling Fall here!) scattered around to add a little sparkle.  Before adding the succulent banner to the background, I stapled some loops of mettalic gold thread to the center of the background, giving a little something extra to frame my image with.  The image was die cut and then mounted using foam tape onto the background.  Lastly the panel was mounted onto an olive green card base.

I am thinking of a new weather chant….If you craft it, Fall will come!!!  What have you been crafting lately?.
