Mix it Up Monday: Sweet Summer Sunbursts

Hi Everyone and Happy Monday! Today, I’m mixing it up with two summer-themed cards that are bursting with fruit flavor. Both card designs use the awesome Catching Some Rays Stencil. What makes this stencil so awesome? It’s a set of two stencils that layer together to add extra bursts of colors or you can use them as two separate standalone designs.

You are so Sweet!

For the yummy watermelon card, I ink blended Candied Apple Distress Oxide for the thick rays and then Lucky Clover Distress Oxide for the layered thin rays. To create the watermelons, on white card stock I ink blended Lucky Clover and Candied Apple Distress Oxide Inks and then used my nesting die cuts to create two circles. I adhered the circles together with the red and adhered it over the half-circle pattern from the stencil. Then I cut the circle to the edge of my card,  creating the second watermelon slice that I adhered to the card. Then I added some dots with a black micron pen to the red center and a little white rind with white gel pen along the green edge. For extra pop, I added Wacky Watermelon Wedge Pops and Black Lady Bug Spot Embellishments with Nuvo Deluxe Liquid Adhesive.

For the sentiment, I stamped and fussy cut the word “Sweet” from the Sweet Senti-Mini 3×4 stamp set with VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink and stamped “you are so” by combining two sentiments together with a little masking.

Hello Sunshine

For my tart lemon and orange card, I used the same process as the watermelon card (minus the watermelon creation). For the sunburst, I used Squeezed Lemonade, Dried Marigold and Spice Marmalade for the thick and thin rays. For the sentiment, I die cut Hello using the Hello Senti-Mini Die Set and white and yellow card stock. Then I heat embossed “Sunshine” from the Hello Sent-Mini Stamp set with white embossing powder to yellow card stock. Then for extra pop I added lemons and oranges from the Citrus Twist Larger Size Fruit Slice Sprinkle Mix , Lemon Meringue Pie and Mandarin Orange Parfait clay embellishments.

So there we are friends, two summer-themed everyday cards to let someone know  just how sweet they are. I had so much fun using the Catching Some Rays stencil and I hope it inspires you to use your stencils in fun new ways. With a few color changes and partially stenciled design you can create totally different card designs. I hope you enjoyed my design today and can’t wait to see you next week. Until then, you can see all my projects on Instagram @popsofpaper or on my blog.

Big Paper Hugs!
