Guest Designer: Daniel West!

Happy Fathers Day to all of the Dads out there! Today we are celebrating Fathers Day by highlighting a very talented and kind crafter (and dad himself), Daniel West! Please join me in welcoming Daniel into our extended Trinity family of designers. He has made some amazing cards for you today. Take a look and let us know which is your favorite. We will pick one lucky commenter to win a surprise from Trinity Stamps!

Hi there! This is Daniel West and I’m thrilled to guest design for Trinity Stamps this week. I have three very different cards for you today so let’s get started talking about them.

For my first card, I used the Rainy Days Together Stamp Set and made a very straightforward card with a one layer panel popped up on some foam tape.  I stamped the main image and a little duckling out onto some Bristol Smooth cardstock with Maple Surface Ink from Brutus Monroe. Then I chose some muted and soft colors from my Arteza Real Brush Pen Set to color in the image.

For the sentiment I chose the phrase, “Together rain or shine,” and stamped it out with some Catherine Pooler Midnight Ink. Since the word ‘together’ covered the little girl figure, I took a white gel pen and ran it around the edge of the lettering on the girl’s dress to help it stand out.

To finish off the card, I added some Salty Tears acrylic tear drops on three of the rain drops and used a shimmer pen to add some shine on the umbrella and the puddle.

For the second card, I used the Floral Cross Stamp Set. This time, I stamped the main image out on some cold press watercolor paper using Picked Raspberry and Forest Moss. Then I used a watercolor pen to move the color a bit around the cross. I let the painting dry, then, I came back and stamped the image again to strengthen the colors and definition of the image. Then I used Icicle (Clear) embossing powder to make the image shiny.

Next, I fussy cut the cross out of the water paper and set it aside. On some green cardstock, I stamped some of the loose floral images in the center of the panel with clear embossing ink to leave a watermark background. Then, I took a shimmer pen and highlighted some of the lines in the watermarked images. Then, I popped the cross up on some foam tape in the center of the panel.

I chose the sentiment With Sympathy from the same stamp set and heat embossed it with Alabaster embossing powder from Brutus Monroe onto some black cardstock. I trimmed down the sentiment strip and popped it up onto some foam tape across the bottom third of the panel. To finish off the card, i adhered everything to an A2-sized card base with strong liquid adhesive.

For my last card, I was challenged by my dear friend, Ashley Tucker, to create a spinner card. I thought the frogs from the Puddle Jumpers stamp set would be perfect for this. I started by creating an A2-sized card base. I scored diagonal lines across the front of the card base and set it aside.

Then, I stamped out 11 frog images and the main image onto some Bristol Smooth cardstock and colored them in with my Arteza Real Brush Pens. Then, with my Scan N Cut machine, I cut them all out.

I used some nested circle dies and some blue cardstock to create a thick ring and a smaller ring with the same inside diameter. Then I die cut a yellow circle that was slightly larger than the inside diameter of both rings. I laid the rings down on the front of my card base and added foam tape in a circle along the inside of the rings. Then, I adhered the circle over the foam, trapping both rings underneath. This is the spinner mechanism.

I adhered my frog images in a circle around the top ring and adhered the main image to the yellow center circle. Then I spent a half hour just spinning the little frogs to my heart’s content.

To finish off the card I added a white heat-embossed sentiment, “You make me jump for joy”, on a black strip under the spinner.

These are my introductory cards for the month here at Trinity Stamps. I hope you enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed making them. You can catch a small video of me spinning last card on my instagram feed instagram.com/delandartie. You can also find me blogging at www.delandartie.com

Thank you for joining me today! I hope you have a crafty and fun-filled day.
