Thumbody Had A Rough Day: A Playful Boo-Boo Card Tutorial

Today’s card is proof that even a tiny “ouch” can turn into something totally adorable on a greeting card. This project mixes brand-new and previously released Trinity Stamps products to create a lighthearted, slightly snarky, very cute design that pokes gentle fun at a non-serious injury.
The star of the show is the Toe-Tally Adorable Stamp & Die Set — this month’s exclusive freebie with a $50 purchase — paired with the brand-new 5-Star Rating Stamp Set, along with the previously released Tiny Bandage Die Set and Healing Wishes Stamp Set. Together, they make it easy to build a character card full of personality and humor.

Change the Mood with Simple Masking
One of the most fun techniques in this card is partial stamp masking to change the expression and mood of the character.
The original image includes a happy smile, but for this card I wanted a more dramatic, wounded look to match the joke. By masking off the smile before stamping and then fussy cutting and pasting in the same mouth upside down, I turned that cheerful grin into a pitiful little frown.
Same stamp. Completely different emotional storyline.
Masking like this is a great way to:
-
Customize expressions
-
Match the tone of your sentiment
-
Stretch your stamp sets further
-
Add personality without needing a different image
It’s a small tweak that makes a big difference in how the card “feels.”
